You do not need a referral or Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) to book in for therapy at The Bare Space Therapy. Couples therapy sessions can be anywhere from 60 minutes up to 2 hours. This is discussed with your therapist prior to your session. Below is a clear overview of our fees and how rebates work.

Medicare's 'Better Access' program provides rebates for up to 10 psychology sessions per calendar year. To access this, you will need to visit your GP to obtain a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) and referral. Your GP will approve an initial 6 sessions. Your psychologist is required to provide updates to your GP as part of this program. After the initial 6 sessions, you may return to your GP for a review of your MHCP, which can allow access to a further 4 sessions. The Better Access program also includes Telehealth appointments.
If you have a valid GP referral and Mental Health Care Plan, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate.
Rebate amount: $98.95 per session (General Psychologist)
Out-of-pocket cost: $121.05 per session
Please note. Clients are charged the full session fee at the time of the appointment. Medicare rebates are processed after the session and paid directly into your nominated bank account registered with Medicare.

We are a registered provider with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
Gold Card holders: Sessions are fully covered
White Card holders: Eligibility varies - we recommend checking directly with DVA to confirm whether psychology services are covered
-
If you have private health insurance with extras cover for psychology, you may be able to claim a rebate through your health fund. We suggest checking with your health fund to see if you’re covered for psychology services.
A few important things to keep in mind:
You can only claim one rebate per session
If you are claiming a Medicare rebate using a MHCP, you cannot also claim through private health insurance
For private health claims, clients are required to pay the full session fee at the time of the appointment. After your session, you can submit the receipt directly to your private health insurer via their online portal or app.
If you’re unsure whether your health fund will provide a rebate, you must contact them to check for you as we are unable to do this on your behalf. If you’re unsure whether we are a registered provider with your specific insurer, please feel free to contact us.

Each assessment session is 60 minutes and is charged at $250 per session.
After the assessment, couples may continue with therapy sessions. Some couples choose longer sessions to allow more time to explore relationship patterns, practise skills, or work through more complex concerns without feeling rushed. Session fees are outlined below:
60-minute session: $250
90-minute session: $375
2-hour session: $500Please note. that couples therapy is not covered by Medicare, and rebates cannot be applied.

We understand that life happens and you may need to cancel or reschedule appointments. However, as we have set aside this time for you, we require a minimum of 48 hours notice to avoid a late cancellation fee. Fees apply as late cancellations impact the ability to offer appointments to other clients. As such, the following cancellation policy applies:
48+ hours’ notice: No fee
24–48 hours’ notice: 50% of the session fee
Less than 24 hours’ notice or non-attendance: 100% of the session fee
Please note. This fee must be paid in full before the commencement of your next session. Medicare and private health funds do not provide rebates for cancelled or unattended appointments. While we understand unexpected situations can arise, this is a firm policy. Please contact us at admin@thebarespacetherapy.com.au if you wish to discuss our cancellation policy.
Fees are reviewed at the end of each financial year and calendar year and are subject to change.
If you have any questions about fees, rebates, or referrals, please feel free to contact us or book in a free 10 minute discovery call.
